Jose Artigas, father of Uruguayan independence
Jose Gervasio Artigas was a leader in the fight for independence in Uruguay in the early 19th century. He admired the United States of America, including the US Constitution. This statue is in Plaza Independencia in Montevideo, Uruguay. Other statues of Artigas can be found in several other cities.
